Pictured here is my experimental wind turbine under construction. Inspired by an old bought one behaving badly before vandalising itself, this is an exercise in learning about low voltage three phase AC. It’s the result of a fairly unholy union between a converted LG washing machine motor, a trailer hub and a microlight propeller. The motor conversion is effected by cutting the copper between the coils and resoldering into three groups every third coil, which proved the easy bit. Unifying these parts has proved something of an engineering challenge, one day I’ll get round to building the tail and furling assembly.
